Fixing Up Your Car

When I realized that my car was having more and more problems, it occurred to me that the repairs might be expensive. To ward off a financial disaster, I decided to start learning a little more about fixing up my own ride. I read a few books and asked my dad for help, and it was awesome to learn a little more about what made cars tick. When my car had it's next issue, I was able to diagnose and troubleshoot the problem myself. I want everyone to know more about cars, which is why I made this blog. Check out these articles to find out how to repair small problems, and when you should get help from a professional.

3 Things To Keep In Mind When Getting Rid Of A Junk Car

If you have a junk car lying around your property that you want to get rid of, here are three things that you need to do and keep in mind when getting rid of a junk car to a scrap yard.

#1 Take Off Valuable Parts

The first thing that you need to do is take off valuable parts. For example, if you installed a stereo system in your vehicle, you don't want to necessary get rid of that. Take out any valuable extra parts that you put into your vehicle, such as stereo systems, seat covers and floor mats. All of these little accessories cost a lot of money and you are probably not going to get their value back when you sell your junk car. You can make more off of these accessories by selling them independently on your own.

If you also put really nice tires or rims on your vehicle, and you can get money for them or reuse them on a different vehicle you own, you may want to take them off. Put stock rims or old tires back on the vehicle. If you are selling it to a junk yard for scrap, the tires and rims really will not matter anyways.

#2 Find Your Title

The second thing that you need to do is find the title for your vehicle. You are going to need to sign away the title when you sell your vehicle. Even if you take the vehicle to a junk yard for scrap or sell it to an organization that purchases junk cars for cash, you still need to transfer ownership of the vehicle. If you fail to transfer ownership, you will be responsible for any tickets that the vehicle obtains as well as an any damage the vehicle causes if it gets into an accident.

Make sure that the new buyer or company signs for the vehicle then notify your department of motor vehicle or secretary of state of the sale. You should also bring and have a bill of sales signed as well. Be sure to bring two copies so both you and the buyer end up with one.

#3 Remove All Personal Items

Finally, before you scrap your car, be sure to go through and remove all of your personal items. Check all of the cubbies and storage areas on your vehicle as well as under all the seats. You don't want to leave behind CDs, cards or other personal items. You may not have access to the vehicle again and if the vehicle is scrapped right away, it may not even be available for you to access.
